Holding Out Help

Holding Out HELP is a grassroots non-profit agency that was born out of someone who attends SMCC. Tonia Tewell realized there was unmet need in the valley and started Holding Out HELP (HOH). HOH provides those from a polygamous culture the care, support, and resources to become independent and self-sufficient. If it were not for many of the members of SMCC who volunteered in numerous capacities, our agency would not have survived. Now we serve 150 -250 people per year and have 10 paid employees. We offer food, clothing, shelter, counseling, job skills, education, and life skills.

If you would like to volunteer with Holding Out HELP, please reach out at (801) 548-3492 or email admin@holdingouthelp.org.

Pregnancy Resource Center

PRC Website logo.png

Since 1986, the Pregnancy Resource Center of Salt Lake City (“PRC”) has offered compassionate care including medical, educational, and material support to those facing unplanned pregnancies, helping them understand all their options, from a biblical standpoint,  prior to making a critical life decision. Most of our clients are between the ages of 15-29, and many have no family support, and some are even homeless. We help people who choose life for their unborn children go beyond surviving, to thriving! We offer love, hope and support with pregnancy verification, limited obstetrical sonograms, referrals to OB/GYN care, prenatal nutrition, lactation consults, material resources, parenting and fatherhood mentoring classes, and post abortion support-- all at no charge to our clients. Discover more at prcslc.org.

If you would like to volunteer at the PRC, please email csmanager@pregnancyresource.net

Conversa Language school

Conversa Language School is a non-profit started in 2020 by Shelby Martin, who previously worked at SMCC Draper. Shelby partnered with Pastor Alberto Lopez in order to offer English as a Second Language (ESL) classes at the SMCC International campus. Our mission at Conversa Language School is to empower and equip adult language learners with excellent language training, and to create a community of hope, by building relationships and teaching helpful content for everyday life. Conversa provides low-cost ESL classes for Hispanic immigrants using Biblically-based resources and teachers. Beginner, intermediate, and advanced ESL classes are available and the main focus is developing day-to-day English conversation skills. Our goal is that students discover Conversa's ESL classes and find Jesus and a community at SMCC International as a result!

If you would like to volunteer with Conversa, please contact Shelby Martin at 678-629-7006 or shelby@conversaschool.org

The chara project

The Chara Project helps build your confidence in studying the Bible on your own and with your neighbor. No matter where you are in your journey with the Bible - The Chara Project was created to empower you to grow in your understanding and love for God’s Word and share that experience with your neighbor, regardless of their faith background.

Founded by women who attend SMCC, the Chara Project offers online and printable resources, videos & podcasts, and in-person teaching - all anchored in the CHARA Bible Study Guide, which was created to help you learn how to study and understand the Bible. They also teach a class for SMCC-U called Making Sense of the Bible.
