Sunday School
Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children, and live a life of love,
just as Christ loved us and gave Himself for us.
Ephesians 5:1-2
Heartland Ministries at South Mountain Community Church exists to connect kids to Christ and partner with parents so that together, we can help them grow up to be fully devoted and fully delighted followers of Him.
Safety: We are dedicated to the safety and security of your children. All children are checked in and given a numbered stick-on label. Parents are given a tag with corresponding number that is needed to pick up the child.
Screened Workers: As South Mountain continues to grow in numbers, we continue to give quality Christian education by loving teachers and workers who have gone through a screening process that includes a national background check.
The "First Friends" ministry offers infants, toddlers, and two year olds more than loving care during the church services. It is our desire that our Nursery serves as an extension of your home. Our nurseries are staffed with a combination of child familiar caregivers and a rotating staffing of parents whose children regularly use this ministry.
Infant Nursery: Birth to 12 months
Our New Life Nursery is staffed by caring providers who are there to play with, care for and nurture your infant. That way you and those around you can enjoy a worship experience without interruption.
Walker's Nursery: 12-20 months
This room is a fun transition room for babies developing a more aggressive play routine than our new life nursery. We have age- appropriate toys, fun videos, and caring childcare providers to share with them that Jesus is their forever friend. This room is also staffed with familiar childcare providers and parents.
Toddlers: 20-36 months
Time in the toddler room is divided into three areas: free play, snack time and circle time. We believe they are never too young to start learning about Jesus!
- Free Play ~ Upon arrival to the toddler room, your children can settle down with familiar, family friendly videos, puzzles and age appropriate toys.
- Snack Time ~ A snack including goldfish crackers, cookies and juice or water is provided on Sunday mornings.
- Circle Time ~ A care provider reads a story and leads the children in a song or game. A craft follows that is related to the subject discussed. Even though this time is short, it allows the children to stay focused on the subject at hand and it prepares them for the next step into the preschool Sunday School classes.
Three and four year olds are an active group of kids. They join the adventure each week as they learn while jumping, dancing, and playing, which is how they learn best! They enjoy a fun and interactive curriculum that includes a Bible Story, an in class activity and a take-home activity for parents to participate in.
Five year olds thru 2nd graders enjoy a large group environment for worship. They enjoy fun, upbeat songs with a Worship Leader to get them started. Then 5 year olds and Kindergarteners go to their age appropriate classrooms for their Bible Story and activities while 1st and 2nd graders experience a Large Group designed just for them. They also have a chance to experience a Small Group environment with the same kids each week to build strong relationships with their peers.
Third and fourth graders check in at the Drive Inn where they join the 5th and 6th graders for an awesome worship time designed just for them. After returning to their class they experience a large group environment and then break out in to small groups of 8-10 kids where they learn how to apply the Bible to their life everyday.
5th - 6th Grade
Cool. Urban. Edgy. From the moment you enter the room, you'll know "The Alley" was designed for today's 5th and 6th graders. From the tagging on the walls to the large metal cross, this is a place where 5th and 6th graders love to hang out. They enjoy a large group experience with awesome worship, cool games, crazy dramas, and interactive visual lessons using the latest technology.
