About South Mountian Community Church

New Draper Church

Dear SMCC Family,

Eight years ago there were seven families in my garage meeting for a worship service. Since then we have watched God bring many more people and, more importantly, have watched him ignite their faith.

In our short history we have been a part of four facility build-outs - that's about one every two years. A big part of our expansion story is the faithful giving of those who have made these projects possible. In a sense, providing more facilities was their way to give to those who had not attended yet. The result of these expansions has been changed lives that otherwise may not have been possible.

We have chosen the word "Ignite" for our Building Program because "Ignite" means that something is beginning, or being fired up. As good as our past has been, we don't want it to ever become our focus. So, today we are looking forward to a new beginning, believing that SMCC's best days are ahead. In this spirit, I am asking God to "Ignite our hearts for his people" (especially those who don't know Him yet). This objective can be accomplished by building a new church facility. With all my heart, I believe that a beautiful, welcoming and state of the art church campus will say to Utah, "The one true holy God is here and He welcomes all who will come." The campus that we are planning to build will help "Ignite this Valley for His Fame!" The SMCC leadership team and I are asking God to provide the finances to build a 117,000 sq. ft. church campus. We are asking the 1,200+ people who attend SMCC to sacrificially give millions of dollars, over and above our regular giving, during the next three years. With these gifts, we can build a facility that will double our current worship seating, provide an incredible experience for children and youth, and give us a wonderful space to connect with others.

Your financial commitment to this project should be the result of a meaningful spiritual journey. It is my intention to give you all the help I can in taking this journey.

Your Pastor,

Paul Robie

WHY BUILD?

  • Offer more seats at prime inviting hours.
  • Make a physical statement of who we are: open, authentic, and warm.
  • Communicate a sense of permanence, and give us a place that we can call home.
  • Offer sufficient space for optimal learning for children and youth.
  • Create an open area (called "3rd Place") to meet friends and build relationships.
  • Offer more space for the multitude in Utah who need the grace and love of God. Note: Total number of Christians who go to church on Sunday in Utah is only 2% of the population.
  • Capitalized on the multi-million dollar piece of land donated to SMCC by a generous member.
  • Serve as a central campus in order to launce additional churches.
  • Avoid having to move to four services per weekend.
  • Relieve the current strain that we are experiencing in our parking situation.
